Maybe a small percular clown, a royal gramma, damsels, some other small fish, but only one. The tank looks nice :) Good luck. 0-1 fish. (with coral)
I have a 12 gallon aquapod for marine fish and coral, like a nanocube. It is not as hard as you think ;) It is EXPENSIVE, although. BUY THE SALTWATER PREMADE it has never failed me ;) Once I poured freshwater in and my fish lived, though, luckly.

You might -- might -- get away with one small damselfish or neon clownfish.
But what you really want in there, if you are going to try to maintain such a small tank as a saltwater tank, are invertebrates. You could probably have a few red-legged hermit crabs, a peppermint shrimp, a few saltwater snails and maybe even a Mithrax (emerald) crab, but that's about it. Please don't try to put lots of animals in there, nor more than one fish.
Also, use 'live sand' as the substrate (NOT "aquarium gravel" or builders' sand), and use real seawater and live rock. You can buy all these at any pet store that sells marine (saltwater) aquarium supplies, and at that size, they will be easily affordable.
Prepare the tank by using Bio-Spira or another live bacteria additive; don't just stick everything in there. It's SO not a freshwater tank.
Learn, learn, learn everything you can before starting -- http://www.nano-reef.com is indeed an excellent place to learn, as someone else mentioned.
Do it right, and you will have a unique small-tank nano-reef. Do it wrong (by adding too much, or too many creatures, or the wrong creatures) and you will have an expensive (and sad) disaster. Worth the extra research to set up something you can enjoy (and which won't kill the critters!)

I cannot recollect any fish that can be maintained in such a small tank but you can maintain a nano reef tank. It is a very enjoyable hobby and is as challenging as a large tank. If you live in a large city, go to an independent pet shop that specializes in marine fish and invertebrates and they will be able to help you with the information that you need to set it up. Even though fish can't go in the tank, several other small creatures and live corals and such can happily co-exist. Just do a little research first so that you are aware of what the whole thing entails. Best of luck to you.

I would NEVER put any salt water fish in a 3 gallon tank! There is no room for error..they are very sensitive to water conditions and mainting optimal water quality in a 3 gallon is extremely difficult. I wouldn't use it for a marine tank at all. I wouldn't even put a turbo snail in a tank that small. The MINIMUM size I would ever reccomend for salt would be a 29 gallon.

The best for a 55 could be clowns, damsels, wrasse, gobys, tangs, triggers, puffers and more. Use instant ocean for the salt. Also when you say AC 50 isnt 50 gallons. An AC 50 will filter about 200gph but more realistically about 150gph.

Very very few can be put in a tank that small. A tank this small requires very religious maintenance and checking. If you decide to go with a nano-tank do a lot of reading. I recommend www.nano-reef.com
