I would LOVE to say yes! But the fact is, if people weren't shelling out the money for the magazines and pictures, the media would find something else to write about. So, basically, we the public are to blame too!

Yes. Like I care if Michael jordon is getting a divorce. Even if i did care, I don't want to hear it 300 times a day. Another example is this nonstop discussion about the death of Gerald Ford. It makes me want to puke when certain people are deemed worthy of so much attention for a week as if they are superior to the rest of us. I thought we didn't have kings and lords here. On that subject, it was the media who killed Diana with their insane paparazzi.
Certain tabloids will pay a million dollars to be the first to have photographs of celebrity's babies, etc. This is also repulsive, and shows how much a slave to time the media is. A picture is literally worth a million dollars today, and tomorrow, it's old news.
If we want to have a hope of influencing this disgusting parasite known as commercial media, we need to stop watching any TV. I would also skip the low-brow glossy magazines. You can tell which people watch too much TV, because they are the idiots who can name every player in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL, and knows every episode of stupid TV shows by heart, but can't carry on an intelligent conversation whatsoever, and get bored and restless when you try to even bring up thoughtful concepts.
Thanks

It is called supply and demand. A lot of the public is interested in the lives of those shallow people and the media only responds by giving them what they want. I don't know if there are demographics to match age and gender to those that follow the celebs but I am willing to bet it is pretty much level across age groups.
On a personal point of view I find them boring, and not very interesting.

Yes, however it is in their best interest to do so, so they'll keep doing it. Seeing as how most of the media is owned by a handful of huge media giants, it makes perfect sense that they would focus on celebrities, so more people go to the movie that just-so-happens to be released by a parent company or subsidiary of whatever network you are watching.
Adam is right - we the public are also to blame. I mean, just look at the top read stories on the YIM. Frequently they are celebrity/entertainment stories.

All the time, believe me I love the movies, actors, actresses, and musicians alot and give them recognition for all the trouble they have to run into everyday life, but personally they are praised way to much and seen not as people, but as God's that should be treated with so many special privileges that yeah many people ordinary people can receive sometimes but for the most part they are over rated in our society because it is like they run the law.

The media gives us what sells. If celebrities sell they will give them attention. I personally think, yes, the media does give to much attention to celebs. I like war. I could watch it on every channel.

No. Most cable providers offer a wide range of programming, so it's pretty easy to avoid the celebrity gossip.
