It depends on where you're going. My sister has been traveling alone for many years. She started doing it in her mid-twenties and has done it for well over a decade. Just plan ahead. Make a trip agenda. Know where you're going and when. Frequent places that are very public. Always keep pepper spray on you. It doesn't hurt to have a cellphone handy either.

Do not go hiking or camping in remote areas alone. National parks are wonderful places to visit, but you can get very isolated, very easily.

Have fun!

It can be if you don't use common sense. Take a cell phone everywhere you go. Do not go into remote places. I am a female and I prefer to travel with someone. You never know what will happen. You could be traveling down what seems to be a fairly nice road in a nice neighborhood and have a flat tire. You get out to change it and the one bad apple of the neigherhood sees a perfect opportunity. PLZ BECAREFUL

No - as long as you are sensible and travel in safe areas.

Do not travel alone in deserted places, or at night in foreign places. Do not accept lifts/favours/accomodation from individuals - always stay public.

It will be wise to let someone know your itenerary, and let them know when you arrive at agreed points, so they can keep track of your whereabouts.

Basically just use common sense.

it depends where you go. it's never wise to travel alone in asia unless you are super savvy, highly skilled in the martial arts, and speak multiple languages. if you stick to major cities and keep people informed of your whereabouts it's better than nothing. a brit was just killed in indonesia a few days ago. he was with a traveling companion and ran into some bad characters.
