Think of something that interests you, like helping people, or being of service to people. The service industry is the next big thing in america, so maybe pre-law? Biology and then med school? Do you want to be a caterer? Would you rather sit behind a desk and work from the computer all day? These are some good questions to ask yourself. You can be a business major if you think that you might want to own your own business later, then a business degree would be helpful for skills on how to manage and run a business to business skills such as good speaking, presentations, and problem solving. Look at the list of majors at your community college. Go talk to your advisement counselor and see if he/she may be able to help you narrow down your results. I really dont know your personal interests in life, but hope this helps. You still have plenty of time to choose a major, its really not a big deal until you have completed all of your general education requirements. Ive found that completing the basics often helps people to decide on what they want to try. If you try something and dont like it, choose something else - but dont make a habit of it, or you will get burned out. Talk to some people and maybe do a little volunteer work in a field that you think you might be interested in. You can always go volunteer at hospitals, art galleries, and daycares even. If you like children, maybe a degree in early childhood education would be good for you. Early childhood is big now, and isnt the same as a general education teacher.

Good luck to you and hope you find something you love!

Ok, it's not as hard as you imagine it to be. So, just relax and take a deep breath. I did this a year ago too. :)

First of all, contact your school's career counselor. They'll probably have dealth with many student's like you and can help you narrow down your focus.

Two, if you've had time to take any electives, see if there is a trend there. Maybe you've taken some extra Psychology courses or Biology courses. See if you're more of a science, liberal arts, or fine arts type of person. Seeing what courses you've taken in the past may help you narrow it down too.

If you're stuck behind a few majors, you could go talk to professors who work in the different academic departments and talk to them about the major they offer.

Anyway, good luck!

What kind of classes have you enjoyed through high school and so far in college? What hobbies do you have? Some people will pick a major because they think they'll make a lot of money (like engineering, pre-med), but that isn't the best way to go about it. If you pick something that you enjoy, you will do better in school, and be happier with your resulting career. There is a lot of stuff online about choosing a major (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=choosing%20major), and your academic advisor can probably point you in the direction of a lot of useful things to get yourself thinking. They may even be able to give you a test that assesses your interests for you. But all in all, it's a lot of soul-searching to choose a major that will work well for you.

Check out this website www.californiacolleges.edu There's a Career component here. Click on Careers and take the interest inventory. From there it will suggest careers and majors.

Don't despair. Think about what kind of job you want, get a good solid education. You can use all things you've learned somewhere in life.

Make an appointment with your college counselor and ask for suggestions on career exploration courses offered at your college.

Good luck!

Your college should offer counseling in that area. Many times they have questionaires that you can fill out that will give you an area that you should look into. After that you can look into specific majors that might be good for you. But dont worry too much, many times people end up in careers that they would have never guessed. Best of luck.

What are you planning to study, what are your interests?
What most of us discovered is that we changed our major at least twice, and that's a low number. Unless your father was a professor and lead you to the gate of education pre-packaged with abundant knowledge. As you mature in your educational scope you may find other interests. Be open. If they allow it, declare Liberal Arts. It is a catch-all for many fields of study.

Gaudiamus igitur,
Juvenes dum sumus.

(Let us rejoice therefore while we are young)
