A keylogger is a piece of software used by spies, hackers and governments to track or illegally obtain personal information/passwords. But they started off being used for simple diagnostics.

A Key generator is used by large companies that create certain softwares only for testing purposes. However, crackers often create Keygens as a method of illegally distributing software (like generating a product key for Windows or something). A Keygen can also be used as a distribution method for Trojans, Spyware and even Keyloggers (small world).
