Although both stores are owned by the same company, gift cards cannot be used among them unless so stated in the guidelines that should be on the back of the card.

If it is a regular gift card, no it cannot be used at the Gap. However, there are certain types of gift cards that may come from Gap Inc. corporate or from a company-sponsored fund-raiser (for schools and such), which allow the gift card to be used at any of the major 3 Gap Inc brands (Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic). The distinguishing factor for these special gift cards is that ALL 3 brand logos must appear on the back of the gift card. Also read the fine print on the regular gift cards. It will specify where it can be used... such as "valid only at Old Navy and Old Navy Outlet stores and oldnavy.com". If it doesnt say Gap or have the Gap logo on it, it cannot be used.

Someone else already mentioned it, but I will say this again:
Credit cards for all the 3 brands can be used interchangeably at the 3 stores (Gap, Banana, Old Navy).

No. An Old Navy credit card will work at Gap, but not a gift card.

No it does not, but there is a website you can use to exchange your giftcard with someone else. This can help you get a card that you can use where you want(such as Gap). Go here and check it out : http://www.cardavenue.com/
