As for self esteem, gym/exercise helps boost self esteem because exercise results in the release of endorphins that promote a positive mood.

gym helps because it gets people out there doing something for themselves. i work in a gym and i cant tell you how rewarding it is to hear someone say about how happy they are, its all self achievement you see, that is the best feeling in the world!! it can help them to meet people who they instantly have something in common with no matter what their shape or size. safety? either because they feel more confident with their own figure they feel more secure in relationships or with themselves or because they build up to a point where they have no self defence issues you pick! for some it is about routine, keeping healthy, running about with their children, yet for people who are or have been ill, it is a way back into normality, for some it is just about having time to themselves.plus you have the whole scientific part or hormones being released that actually do make you feel good!! x

physiological it is about keeping fit, toning your body and having aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
Safety needs is that the gym is public and supervised, but jogging or any outdoor activity is not supervised and can have helath hazards.
self-esteem, is from raising endorphin levels and getting to feel good by regular exercise.

When you work out your brain releases endorphins and that helps you to be happier and it also encourages natural endorphin production. When you work out you feel really healthy and better about yourself helping your self-esteem. You get stronger and you feel so much better about yourself and your ability. It can help your safety because you are getting stronger.

When our son was young he lacked confidence. We enrolled him in a gymnastics class and he seemed to gain more self esteem. I don't know if this always works but it did in this case.

Anything can help with one's physiological needs. One merely has to be open to the assistance.
