Hi,

I installed a new DVD-R drive in my desktop, per CNET's instructions . http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6603_7-5118840-1.html?tag=nav

It will play DVDs but the sound is all choppy. I have a CD-R installed too and the sound is now choppy on it also. I tried several different CDs and DVDs in both drivers with the same result. However my iTunes music plays perfectly. What's going on?

I really appreciate any help!

First check your the IDE cable running from your C: hard drive is properly attached to your motherboard on the Primary IDE slot and your Disk Drives are on the Secondary IDE slot on the motherboard.
see here for a basic idea of what I mean

Also, look to make sure your jumper pins are properly set (Master, Slave, or ,if your computer supports it, Cable Select)

If thats right then it might be an improper DMA setting

Long shot but try looking at your audio software program and make sure that the effects is not set to "karaoke". Microsoft Media for some reason will default to that after installing a new player. I know it sounds odd but it has happened to me on 2 of my families 3 PC's.

They only thing I can think of is that you are running to many programs at once. Have you tried to go offline and shut down all progams and then try to watch a dvd or play a cd. Goodluck.

unfortunately, windoze is poor at using codec. I would download a good video and audio codec before I did anything else. Also WMP is a terrible player. Searh for video lan and download it with all the codec. Best player for the price. {free} Good luck!
