Obama is really cool, but that's the problem. Right now, the man is all hype. I would love to vote for him, but he doesn't have any big politcal accomplishments. With a Dem Congress, he should start getting those opportunities. Obama needs to hold off until 2012 or 2016. He is not going anywhere and a failed Presidentail campaing would be disaterous to his career.
McCain is ready. He is military so hopefully he's exp there will pay dividends in Iraq. He works with people, currently wooing the Christian Right for voting power. But don't be fooled by his sudden religous right turn. He is playing these people because they cost him the Primary against Bush. Once he gets elected, I am very confident he will be the old John McCain.
Bottom Line: McCain is the guy now, but Obama's time is coming.

Obama is very unlikely to win the Democratic nomination. And McCain is rather unlikely to become the Republican front runner. So, your question is about a hypothetical situation. Of course, if it happened indeed, McCain would be the obvious choice for the vast majority of voters. BTW, I have a better question: Obama vs. Hillary Clinton - Who would you vote for? (of course, this is impossible since they are both in the same party). Or, let's consider something more realistic: Obama vs. someone like Pat Robertson - theoretically, with the primaries system, something like this is possible indeed, and if this ever happened, the choice would be really a tough one.

I think it is much too early to be worrying about poll results,we have a long way to go until the elections. If the poll you are referring to is accurate,it is probably only because McCain is a more well known name at this time.Voters do not know enough about Obama yet because of his inexperience.

I think it is just to darn early to be doing polls such as this. Obama will be much closer in the future. As long as the candidate is Obama and not Clinton!

Why do you call Barack Obama B. Hussein Obama? That's not the name he goes by. Is it some sort of Arab-hate-race thing with you?
Seems like it. Typical conservative race-baiting.

Polls are deceiving. Depending on which organizations are conducting them, they can be biased. Also, Obama is not the democratic front runner, so I don't know if you can really compare these two candidates.

Republicans swiftboated and smeared John McCain in 2000.

"Sellout" Mc Cain is ahead only because Obama is inexperienced. McCain will not make it through to the end, thankfully. He is a "sellout" to his party and to veterans.

Because Obama has no track record, secondly he will not be the front runner, Clinton will.
