Well since you're still in the early stages of your period you must know that it is natural to be a little late or even very late. You will experience an awkward period for a few years.
Every woman is different and because of this none of our bodies work the same and rarely will a woman's body "go by the book" so to speak.
The brown blood is because you haven't had a period in 4 months and this is build up or old blood that you might not have seen had you had a normal period. Many women still experience it even if they have their periods on time every month because on occasion blood tends to be brownish in color either in the beggining of the cycle or on the last days.
I usually get brown to black blood on the last two or three days of my period. Nothing is wrong with me and I am quite sure nothing is wrong with you either.
Some days you will have different flows. How long is your period? If it is averaging from 4-5 days then you are lucky for one and you will definitley experience a flow change as all women do.
If your period is 6-8 days long you will experience more flow changes. I am an 8 day long menstrual lady myself. My flow ranges from heavy, to spotting, to light and medium on different days.
Your body is acting in a natural way and you will experience different things on your period. You should only worry about your period if it lasts a very long time and usually that happens if you start birth control or a new hormonal pill or shot.
Good luck, welcome to the club and try sitting down with your mom, aunt or grandma (whoever raised you) and discussing your feelings.
Oh by the way when you experience brown or black blood there are two reasons: Your uterine lining is either shedding at a slow rate or your seeing old blood . :)

First period as in, I just turned 12 & I had my first period???
If there is that much of a gap between periods, you should be talking to your mom about this. I think that would be best. Maybe she had the same thing happen or she could at least get you an appointment with a gynacologist so she can check things out & make sure everything is normal & that there are no actual problems. It may just be that since you are young, your body has not gotteninto the groove so to speak of a menstrual cycle.
I know when I first started (many years ago), my periods went for 7 or 8 days & were very painful. Then around high school they shortened to 5 days. In my late 20s they shortened down to 3 days & have been that way since. The cramping & all the other junk has changed over the years also. I use to have horrible cramping, bloating & migraine headaches. Now I have mild cramping, a dull headache & tender breasts. But this only lasts for one day instead of 2 or 3 like it did when I was younger.
Talk to your mom, she will understand & since she knows you, she should be of more help. Otherwise, speak with a gynacologist.....
The brownish blood is common. Many if not most women have this. It is just the old blood at the end of your cycle. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey!! No big deal! It's only your second period ever, right?? If so in the begining periods are very irregular in both flow and timing. In about 6-12 months they should become very regular. Just to be on the safe side you should contact your doctor, but this is really very common and you shouldnt be too worried! Good luck!

My first question would be... Are you pregnant? I've heard women to be pregnant and not know. The brownish color is blood mixed with your body fluid which means there is still a little blood that in your cervix. - The only other thing I can think of is that you are on the shot or some other contraceptive that has messed with your period. If not either one of these things, see a doctor. But I'd get a pregnancy test first.

It is pretty normal for periods to be irregular when you first start menstruating. The brownish color may just be dried blood. You have to remember that the discharge is not just blood, it is actually the lining of your uterus and may not have the same color as blood. If you are really concerned, go see an ob/gyn (which I would suggest doing anyway).

because its only your second period, your body hasn't yet developed a cycle. therefore, for the first year, your cycle will be a little irregular, but thats all normal. Just take it as it comes, and if you really are feeling concerned, go and see a doctor. Don't worry!!! :)

with different girls cycles vary...it may take a while for your cycle to regulate. Don't be alarmed, You may have heavy to very light flows... all depends on your cycle. If you are really concerned call your Dr. and let her know what's going on and she will better help you understand!

That's normal. It takes your body time to adjust when you're starting your periods.
Your periods acting like you described is pretty normal.
