I have to take issue with the other responders. It is not that they are wrong about making money, it is that everything is not so simple as that.
It is true that you do not make money that you can turn to another purpose without selling. But the fact that the stocks have become woth more does add to your wealth. And is it better to hold raw currency that inflation is eating away at, or to have the currency invested in a growing asset? Most people but perhaps not all would answer the latter.
Another consideration is the tax consideration. If you sell the stock and take your profit, a portion of that profit is taken from you by the governments. But is you do not sell, the governments take nothing and the money can continue to grow.
My position is that you do make money without selling the security. In fact you make more money by not selling than by selling assuming that the money is invested in a growing company.

With a little research and study you could learn more about the market and how you could sell options on the stock you own. (If your stock is optionable)
It has taken about a year since we decided to learn about the market. We joined a local group and have learn about investing in the market and the many different way to manage or leverage your money with options. There's allot of websites on the Internet that could be helpful. Many people day trade and some buy stocks to develop an investment portfolio that can grow over time once they have learned to manage it correctly. Many online brokerages offer low fees and software for your use and research. You must study first before investing and practice with a paper account ....nothing is guaranteed but by using advanced investing techniques one can protect themselves. Good luck

That is a common, but not totally correct belief. A sound company will grow and increase both in value and in the amount of dividends paid out. It would be more accurate to say that you have made money, but that money is still at risk.

Yes, you have to sell them to make $. Keep them for over 1 year so the taxes are less. (Long term vs. short term gains.)

stop asking this question, you've asked this repeatedly. It's not even remotely compelling or interesting, so why do you keep posting it?

your net worth increases, but you don't have "spendable" funds until you sell.
