When my first child was born my parents came to visit ,when I handed my daughter to my mother I said go to grandma.. she cringed so I said go to "myMom" it stuck. All of the grandchildren (7 in all) call her "Mymom and call my dad "daddyRoy" his name is really Jerry and thats a long story. They are both very close to the grandkids..or were my father passed away yesterday afternoon. He will always be "Daddyroy" to those who knew him. We were all blessed by the years w/ him.

Well, my grandfathers died before I was born and my grandma on my dad's side died when I was very young. My grandma on my mom's side died when I was a bit older, about 11 but she lived halfway across the world and I only met her once when I was 7. So, I didn't know much about them to be able to have such a close bond with them. Sad but true.

Grandma "E" (Ethel, yeah I know, I know ..... the name....lol)
would bake when she knew we were coming for a visit.
That brings back so many nice memories of chocolate chip cookies and fresh baked bread just out of the oven....
Visits around her dining room table at Thanksgiving....
All those simple, unconditional, warm hugs...

My mom's mom was Grandma.
My dad's mom, being a woman who grew up privileged, had us calling her 'grandmother' from the time we could talk.
People used to comment to my mom that it seemed strange to hear us as preschoolers and even as toddlers, calling our dad's mom by such a formal term; especially since she lived in our house!

well we used to call my grandma "Mamama" because my oldest cousin called her that when she was little. And her kids named her mother (my mom's grandma- my great grandmother) was called "O'ma", which my aunt called her when she was little. I think O'ma means grandma in German, but not sure.

I still call my dad's parents Nanny and Poppy. I am the eldest of 15 grandkids and I have no idea why I started calling them that in the first place, but it stuck and that's what we all call them.
