I dont know the name of it, but here is a description: It is one of those indoor fig type

I dont know if I am watering it adequately or offer watering it, but many of the leaves are turning yellow simoltaneously. I know that may be normal for some leaves to fall off but the whole tree is dying - now the leaves are getting kind of sparse when it was normally pretty lush.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Give it adequate light, but I would suggest that you check the soil(dirt) that the plant is in. You might have to repot it with new soil. Sometimes the soil will mold or just get old causing a fungus. If your plant is not a "water loving" plant then you cannot overwater it and that will also cause fungus growth because the water just sits there and rots the roots. Get rid of all yellow dead leaves, it could also be a way for the plant to shead for the season.

Make sure the pot you have it in has adequate drainage. Sometimes if there's no drain hole in the bottom of the pot, regular watering can do more harm than good because the water builds up in the bottom and rots the roots. Don't water the plant until you can stick your finger to the first knuckle into the dirt and it still feels dry. To see if there's too much water, tip it on its side over a sink and see if any water runs out. IF that is the case, leave it like that for a while, then stand it in a window and let it dry out before watering it again.

There are of course many reasons and without knowing which country you live in and whether its summer or winter there, makes it even more difficult. But to cover all. Have you fertilised it, if so, could have been overfertilised. If you havent fertilised it, then dont, thats the last thing sick plants need. If you have access to rainwater, take the plant outside and drench it , keep the water running thru the soil, then bring it in again. Have you got it too close to a heater (or cooler. ) and it likes the light, not a dark corner., and best of all - - - - TALK to it, kindly. Best of luck!!

You may be talking about Ficus benjamini. Whenever you move this tree or plant (depending on the size) it will lose leaves. Get it near a window with good light, don't overwater it and leave it in one place. Changing places make it weep.

over watering causes this, lack of light is another cause, lack of minerals in soil is a major source.using Epsom salts bath crystals, mixed with water and using it once and a while will cause your plants to thrive.with this and some TLC things will be back to normal in no time.
