Terrorism is Bush's excuse, but not mine. As a member of the US, I feel that Bush has gone to extremes to get his way, and I would prefer diplomacy to war.
As for "hegemony", or domination (since Webster's considers that a viable alternative to the word), there isn't a society alive that doesn't consider itself superior to another in some form. That is the very meaning of diversity.
Without diversity, Homo Sapiens as a species wouldn't exist.....we need the differences to prevent us from dying out as a race.

No power should use any excuse to be the sole superpower. America has interests all over the world, and right or wrong we have to protect them. No hegemony is good for the entire world based on that everybody has their cultural differences. However, I cannot think of another nation I would really want as a superpower. Of all of the countries in the world however, I really wouldn't want too many other powers in the world to be a super power. Imagine if Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, or China or even the Europeans with their brutal history of colonization were to be a superpower? Of all the major powers I feel that America is the least of all the evils.

It's not an excuse to be anything. We are in a war on terror. Where were you on 911? Do you not know that Saddam used WMD on his own people, and the Kurds. He's killed 100's of 1000's, maybe even millions! Do you not know that Saddam violated 17 resolutions? Good grief stem cell research is looking better all the time if it will help grow you Liberals a damned brain.

its not only the job of the US to assert itself but its is a requirement. the axiom of choice shows that there is always a top and bottom. if a world power is not a stable constant force in world affairs an unstable evil rule would take that place. The battle of good and evil is always prevalent. We tried to create an organization (UN) that would take this burden but it became the corrupt worthless organization it is so until something better comes along we owe our abilities to this world for allowing us to become the great nation we have become.

unilateral actions are never good. terrorists have existed as long as governments have; there is no terrorist nation, so who the hell are we fighting? apparently all of those people delivered to the CIA by governments looking to make some money by turning in terrorists. maybe if we torture enough gitmo detainees then we will be able to put a face to this so called threat. nice nice. it's so great to abuse our "super power" status to blatantly torture, destroy and invade. my goodness, when will this madness end? to answer your question, US hegemony = the death of me (and other innocents everywhere).

Someone has to be the biggest/smallest/shortest/uglyest and so on. Why not be the worlds only Super-Power. As such we are more adapt to be guilded by our own self interest. Is that bad?

For people who do not understand radical Islam, they would say yes.
I for one understand the threat that radical Islam is, so I think that you are very mis-informed.
The terrorism that we face is a direct result of Radical Islam, this is what I am talking about. You don't understand it.
