You're not "supposed" to. You can though. Like everything else in and on our bodies (with the exception of the appendix, I guess), the body hair you have serves a functional purpose. For one, it allows for temperature control, but it also holds in the pheromones (the human scent we naturally produce to attract the opposite sex). Shaving "down there" is an aesthetic choice. If you like the way it looks and/or feels better than not, then go ahead. It's just like shaving under your arms--some women couldn't imagine NOT doing it, others don't understand why some DO it. I think it's more popular now than ever because bathing swimsuits and even underwear is cut now so you would have a lot of hair poking out around the sides if you didn't. Be forewarned, re-growth can be a *****.

Instead of shaving, I get it waxed. It can be a little uncomfortable when it starts to grow back after shaving. Only once have I had the Brazilian (where they take off everything). I didn't like it. Now, I only do enough so that it looks very neat. My husband loves it!
I don't think you are or are not supposed to do it. It's totally up to you. I started shaving around the bikini area when I was in high school because I was a cheerleader and you didn't want anything "hanging out". Now it's totally by choice and I wouldn't have it any other way.

A lot more women shave "down there" then what u may think. whether it be just to trim it up o shave "it" completely.I think it should be your personal choice. Look at it like this, try it out if you don't like it, it will always grow back....here is a few tips, use a fresh razor, be very careful no to get any gel internally, and make sure you shave in the direction your hair grows... it alleviates hair bumps!...good luck! and for the record, I have asked my Dr. about shaving, she said it was fine...

I get brazillians, which is where they wax off all of the hair. It's a somewhat painful experience (but not too bad if done by a professional waxer), but the results are brilliant! I don't like to shave it because when the hair starts to grow back, it makes the area very itchy and uncomfortable. Hope that helps!! :)

I do shave or use hair remover after my periods just to clean up "down there". I dont think you have to or "supposed to" but I think it is a nice way to stay clean, and I've heard it reduces the likelyhood of yeast infections and Urinary Tract Infections because there is no hair for the infectious bacteria to get trapped.

I do. People prefer different things, some feel cleaner without much pubic hair. It´s really a matter of taste. In the past, way back when, the pubic hair served as protection of the genitalia from the environment because humans would be naked, but i´m pretty sure it doesn´t really serve a purpose anymore.
