I recently went snorkeling in the Bahamas and loved it. I snorkeled anywhere from one foot to 20 feet in the barrier reef and saw cushion sea stars, jellyfish, sting rays, a nurse shark, colorful corals, and delicate angelfish. Getting scuba certified is EXPENSIVE ($1,000) and so are the air tanks. For those who have done both, is scuba diving significantly better? How so?

scuba diving is MUCH better in my opinion! you can go down and look around without worrying about coming up for air. You can relax and take it all in without thinking about how long you can hold your breath. Seriously, it's like night and day. I went scuba diving and snorkeling in the Virgin Islands last year, and scuba diving was SO much more fun! It's a little expensive, but it shouldn't cost a thousand dollars. I think it was only a couple hundred where I went.

Scuba diving is far better, just being able to breathe under water is an experience in itself. Once you have the gear and you are certified, scuba diving is relatively cheap, its just the price of compressed air which costs an average of about $5 a tank

Good snorkel for scuba diving? Easy. You do not really need one. The cheapest one will do. Good mask is trickier. Mask should sit tight on your face making proper air seal. It should be comfortable as well. Hard to advise anything. You just have to try for yourself.

It should not be more than $300 to do an open water certification. You can rent tanks inexpensively, and most dive charters have them for you. Don't buy unless you will dive near your home a lot-you cannot fly with tanks.

yes it is because u can go deeper down so u can actually swim and touch (if it is safe to toucha that certain kind of sea animal) with the fishes and plus it is a great way to learn more about the ocean
