I'm not "scared" to go to the OB/GYN - because I understand that whoever I go to, man or woman, that they are a doctor, a professional, and they are there to help me.
Unfortunately, due to insurance issues and changes, I've been to different doctors - both men and women, and I actually think that, believe it or not, men are more "gentle" and they have a better bedside manner (judging from my personal experience alone, of course). Perhaps I've just gone to the wrong women. Regardless, I don't think that there is any reason to be afraid of the doctor and the experience itself.
I understand that the visits are a bit uncomfortable, and I assume that's because they do put you in a very unnatural, compromising, and vulnerable position, but it's medicine - it's their job to know the female organs inside and out (no pun intended) and to be professional about it.
I think that if you're afraid of the "outcome" of your visit, than you should try to look at the doctor as someone that can help you and advise you no matter the situation. I'm sure that if you get any level of bad news - unfortunately, there will always be someone out there that will have it worse...
I hope this answers your question.

When I was younger (i'm only 23) I would rather go to a woman than a man. As time went on I got used to what was going to take place and the man in the office that I went to had more experience so I started going to him. I think every person is different. I'm ok going to a man though. As far as younger girls though, I would definitely recommend them going to women. They seem to be more understanding and know how you feel, after all they have been there!

I've been to men doctors, who were very nice and they delivered my 2 children. When they both moved out-of-state I didn't go for check-ups for years. Then when I did go back, I decided to go to a woman. Big difference. I'll never go back to a man doctor unless I have to. Yes, I've found that I'm much more relaxed with a woman GYN. They seem to genuinely care more also.

I am not scared of the gynocologist. I would rather that than go to the dentist-you are in and out of there so quick. But-I have found that I would rather go to a female-seem to understand that the swab they stick into you should be warm and other things-woman just understand what it's like more!

I would say yes - women would rather go to a women doc. To me I know I would and I have different reasons for it 1) they tend to listen better 2) they tend to have more "tact" 3) they seem more concerend-sp with the pain a person is feeling and don't act like it isn't real or happening or something like that. 4) women seem to be able to make a person feel "comfy" so we talk more freely. etc...

I have never been scared of going to the Gyn.
All three of them over the years have been women doctors.

personally - i have a female gyno. that's super nice. The first i had hurt when she did the exam- this one don't- so even though it REALLY sucks to go and have the exams done and is embarassing- it helps that she's nice and she gets down on your level to relate.

Because it downright hurts? And not too many people want to be subjected to that kind of pain. Just like men and prostate exams.
