without any doubt the 80s.in that time HM was not mutated,it did not have any other influences except rock.In the 80s HM was still pure and it came from the heart. There are some bands today that play that kind of HM but not so many as in the 80s

I'm not really an 80's fan but I'd also have to go with the early-mid 80's. I like 70's rock best, but even the heaviest of most of it didn't have all the elements that usually makes something qualify as "heavy metal," until maybe the tail end of that decade. Then in the late 80's it got horribly cheesy. Everything that was coming out at that time just seemed like an unfunny joke. I like alot of 90's rock, but once again, some of the typical elements were absent. And now, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of metal at all.

I'd say in general the late 70's to the late 80's. The late 90's was the worst. The mid 2000's are looking good.

It's hard to say between the early-mid 70's or the early 80's era.

I pick the 80s because there was so many different kinds of metal to choose from. You had your classic bands still around plus hair bands, all the old school heavy metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Venom, Motorhead and Anthrax were just getting going. There just seemed to be alot more good bands to choose from back then.
