He drove more than 800 miles to give it to me in time for christmas. Its a beautiful bird, very friendly, but there is one problem...
It swears at my parents when they come to visit me. Nobody else, just my parents.
Do you think my friend really knew the bird swore? And how do I get it to stop?
I really dont wanna return this bird in the car (16 hours) listening to him swear at me.

p.s. what should i get my bestfriend for his birthday that is in 3 weeks?

The parrot:
I had one like that... no matter what I did, he wouldn't stop swearing... One day I got really pissed and threw him in the freezer... I let him out after about 20 minutes he was real nervous and asked me what the turkey had done... he was a real good bird after that.

1) get a recording of different birdsongs, and play it frequently and your little budgie may start imitating those sounds, instead.

2) or, Classical music.

Getting the bird to stop when parents come to visit, is what one other person mentioned-- throw a towel, sheet etc over the cage, and it'll quiet down. Your friend probably didn't know about the bird's habits (although I do know a funny joke about a parrot swearing -- it was in a brothel, and then when this couple came home, it said....oh, it's too long to tell here).

Give your friend a bunny. They're clean, quiet and can be trained to use a litter box.

omg thats really quite funny. I have no idea how you can stop it from swearing at your parents, apart from taping it's beak shut every time your paren't are around! lol, as far as a present for your best friend is concerned, why don't you get him a parrot? That way your parrots can become friends! If all else fails, an amusing book from borders never seems to let anybody down. hope that helps!! :)

You don't get the bird to stop swearing. The bird is just mimicing sounds it learned long ago. Maybe your parents will come to accept this. I hope so, as it doesn't seem that you can do much about it.

Get your friend a birthday gift he will enjoy.

Haha I would give him the bird back lol... You could put an add in the paper if you can't find someone in the area who has experience with those birds.

You could try the local animal shelter for more details on who you could speak to on information for training the bird. All that good stuff.. Animal shelter people tend to be nice so good Luck!!

:O)

If the Parot is swearing and you never have done that around the bird then their is a good chance he learned that from your friend! If the bird only swears at your parents just cover his cage when they come over! Get your friend a monkey and teach it to throw his poop at people! Pooping Monkeys are Awesome!
