When was the game "Simon Says" first played?

I'm doing research. Can you all help? I can't find the answer anywhere....

Question: How old is the children's game "Simon Says"? When was it first played?

And who is Simon anyways... (this last question is just to satisfy my own personal curiosity)

I don't need an exact year count or date... just a general answer... like maybe the year, or even the decade. For example, did people play it in the 1940's? Or earlier?

If you don't know the answer for the above questions, can you tell me how many years ago it was that you first played the game. (Like for me, I think I played it for the first time some 24 years ago.)

the game goes back for a long time.. Simon was a man named simonkovski he was a ruthless Russian officer... when the enemy was captured he would tell them simonkovski says to stop than he would kill them as they kept walking..this is because that they did not understand the language .. as word got out the mothers would say to there children to do as simonkovski says.. after a few generations the Russian children turned it into a game

This is one of those ones that you'll never get a definitive answer. It may have started after 1967 when the bubblegum pop band brought out a song called... you guessed it... simon says- you'll have to ask someone a little older than I about that!
The song goes through the actions of the game.
