I'm 36 weeks pregnant and feel a yeast infection coming on. I had one about a month ago and my doctor told me to use Monistat 7 but....this time I'm dilated 2 CM. I was wondering if I could treat a yeast infection once I've started dilating? I could go into labor any time now.

What did your doctor say?

You could have another month or more (even at 2cm) before you actually have the baby, so your doctor will probably not expect you to wait until then to treat it. He may however prescribe a different type of treatment since you are a little dilated.
And are you sure it is a yeast infection? Did he examine you the last time, or are did you tell him you had one and he said monistat was okay? The fact that you just had one a month ago makes me think you should go in-another condition that is common in pregnancy-called bacterial vaginosis-can be easily mistaken for a yeast infection, but it must be treated with antibiotics.

I would call your doctor in the morning to make sure but I don't see why you couldn't treat a yeast infection while dilated 2 cm.

You've probably already thought of this, but if you just 'feel it coming on,' have you tried fiddling with your diet?

Little sugar + loads of bio yoghourt sometimes does it for me when I 'feel one coming on,' so to speak. You can also try eating a lot of garlic...

You can find 'probiotic' capsules in the fridge in your local health food store, too. (Contrary to one bit of advice above, you do _not_ want an antibiotic...!)

That said, Diflucan is 'pregnancy category C,' but I'd imagine harmless as a one-shot so late on -- that's what I'd be asking my doctor about, after eating too much yoghourt.

You should get a prescription antibiotic for it. I cannot believe your doctor let you treat it the first time without a prescription antibiotic...I got amoxitabs for mine...months ago. Either way, don't try to treat it on your own now. At LEAST call L&D and ask them what to do. To be safe I'd call the doctor...of just give it a week. If you are already 2cm than your doctor will be able to tell you if you should just wait it out until the baby pops out or what...

Talk to your doctor. If you're dilated it's not recommended to administer anything vaginally as it could cause an infection.

I think you should call your Dr in the AM and ask him/her. I wouldn't do anything until then. I know it's uncomfortable but if it were me, I wouldn't do anything without the Dr's approval this close to the end of your pregnancy.

I wouldnt do it because u dont know how fast u will continue to dilate and if u have put something down there and the baby comes in contact with the medicine, the medicine may effect the baby.

Should be able to. 2cm isnt reallytoo serious into labor. You should try a 3day regimen or talk to the Dr about Diflucan, which is taken orally.

Good Luck
