The Media those days was not that developed. Secondly, Hitler was not captured alive and tried for an offence. He was either shot dead in a fake suicide or he might have killed himself to escape humiliation. But both were holed up in a bunker in the most ignominious manner and gives the satisfaction of poetic justice to the mind of his contemporaries as well as the posterity.

Hitler's death was suicide, so in many ways it was different from Saddam's in that he never had to face a trial.

The first reports of his death were not very clear; his body was burned by members of his SS bodyguard before he could be formally identified by the allies. He was found by Russian soldiers some days after his death, (May 2nd, 1945, he died on April 30th) in a pit with the burned corpse of Eva Braun and his two pet dogs (whom he was very attached to.)

Their bodies were autopsied and then buried (and were consequently exhumed and reburied several times) before in the 1970's they were dug up and reburnt before being thrown into the Elbe River.

I'm giving you this background information so you can see that despite his death, Hitler was still feared as a political force. Even his ashes were not properly interred, as people were afraid that any burial site may become a rallying point for a Neo-Nazi movement.

Saddam's death was a calculated ridicule of a fallen leader. The news was broadcast on Iraqi television and many people as we have seen have been celebrating his demise. The portrait of Saddam has been of a crazed but pathetic man; hiding in holes, spouting ridiculous statements; and this has reinforced the feelings of triumph felt by the Iraqi people and also America and its allies.

However, like during Hitler's death, many people are more concerned about the war than they are about the death of one leader. Whilst there was alot of publicity about Hitler's death, the war still raged on for several more months, whilst in the case of Iraq there is currently no end in sight. So whilst people were celebrating, it was a tired and cautious celebration. Everyone was aware that the damage had already been done, was irreversible and that the death of Hitler, like Saddam, was more of a cold comfort for those who had to suffer under his regime.

It is interesting to note that the cover of TIME magazine is the same for Saddam as it was for Hitler.

There was no proof;
just propaganda.

Even the different propaganda stories of his death are different, some say he shot himself, others insist he took arsenic poison suicide pills, etc... The conflicting propaganda stories hint that his death then, is a myth.

It would have been easier for him to have an escape and exile plan than Bin Laden had in our modern times with satelites and technology and more extensive and prolific media, and you can see, even with our most modern technology, even Bin Laden got away. Earlier in the war in Afganistan, it was reported in the media that Bin Laden was killed, and daring proof later that he's still alive now. There were people and organizations still hunting, looking for Hitler in the decades after WWII. Its best for govt.s and simple common public to dwell on some ideal propaganda story.

There are no real "death photos" of Hitler, per se. He reportedly shot himself. His body was then burned and buried in a shallow grave. All the Russian troops found was the buried remains which they, allegedly, confirmed as Hitler's through dental records.

There was no death report of Hitler. He shot himself and his guards buried his body. There was no tele vision report.
