My girlfriend has the flu and is currently taking antibiotics. Should she discontinue the pill for now and start taking it once she's done with the antibiotics or continue to take the pill anyway? Thanks

She should continue to take the pill but use some other form of protection (condoms for you, honey).

First of all, Antibiotics will not get rid of the flu. The flu is a virus and antibiotics do not work on viruses. The reason your girlfriend got the flu in the first place is that her immune system is weak. Taking the pill is totally unrelated to taking antibiotics. All antibiotics do is cause the immune system to produce more macrophages for a specific antigen. I would not take an antibiotic unless is was a life and death situation. Antibiotics ravage the immune system, cause the destruction of all the intestinal flora, both good and bad. This allows toxins to build up in the intestines usually causing diarreha or constipation, further compromising the immune system. The pill is another great creation by our pseudo healthcare system that should be taken only for a short time if at all. There are many other solutions to birth control that your girlfriend should look into. One way is to drink SOY formula for babies. Each serving is equivalent to giving the baby 5 birth control pills.

Why is she taking antibiotics for the flu, it is not an infection? Anyway, many women get pregnant taking antibiotics because it can change the effectiveness of the pill. She should continue taking the pill (so her cycle is not messed up) along with the antibiotics, but use another form of birth control to prevent pregnancy.

No! She should not discontinue taking the pill! However, antibiotics reduces the effective of the pill. Some make sure to strap up when making love.

Stay on the Pill and maybe even use condoms because antibiotics will over take the pill and she will get pregnant trust me I know of a friend who was on the pill and taking an antibiotic and don't use any other protection and got pregnant.

I have taken my pill with antibiotics before. But be careful, taking antobiotics and the pill can lessen the birth control pills. Make sure you use another form of birth control (condom, ect.) until she is done with her antibiotics, plus a week after she has finished her antibiotics. Just to be safe!

i'm not one hundred% particular, yet i do not imagine it really is hazardous. I actually have taken antibiotics at the same time as on the patch and it isn't volatile. also in case your physician became the only which perscriben the antibiotic it really is going to be ok. do exactly not take the different drugs at the same time as on the yeast an infection (as well the antibiotic and birth control)

Continue the birth control. Use a condom as back up method until the next round of antibiotic-free birth control.
