in new york city I noticed that the white people get better service then blacks. Is it because the cab drivers are racist or because of economic reasons?

The fact that blacks commit more crimes and dont tip has NOTHING to do with it. It's PURE racism and we should attack all cab drivers who do this with weapons.

You seem to think it's racism because that was your first option given. You only added in the throw-away reason about economic reasons as an afterthought.

Perhaps people should exhaust all the other options before jumping on to racist conclusions (which in themselves are racist). but I guess that might entail some intellectual strain. No, if we learned anything from Al Sharpton (and Tawana Brawley) it's that it's much easier to cry racism and force potentially innocent people to prove they are not racists than to have to strain your brain with critical thinking.

By the way, if you (and your answerers) are so darn observant about cab rides in New York City then you might have noticed how few white cab drivers there actually are. There are a hell of a lot more Black drivers than White. Hmmm. Must be some kind of racist conspiracy.

Since most NYC cabbies are foreign they are here to basically make money,they are also very unfamiliar with African-Americans. The only things they know about us is what they've been told,read,or watched on TV. I wouldn't say racism,but fear of the unknown and economic security. I remember when Oprah went into the Hermes store (without makeup,ugh),they didn't know who she was.She thought they were racist but who in Paris watches Oprah ? Not many people I bet.

It could be a little bit of each; on the one hand they might think a black or other minority would want to go to a "bad" part of town, and it could be self-preservation. On the other hand, it could be that they think a black would try to hurt them or something(which is ridiculous and racist).

Maybe if they wouldn't have the highest crime rate in the u.s. by a minority other than illegal aliens whom kill 9125 american people per year, 25 per day, 12 stabbing, 13 car. I do however respect the ones who act right, that are not loud, make slurs, make false accusations. The ones who do commit the crimes have had hard lives, they live for drugs, and have known no other life than crime, and at most times let go of their opportunities in life or had none.
