It's a ford 98 150, the brakes mechanically are in good standing, the line in question had split and fallen off some time ago. Will a thorough cleaning of the nipple on the brake line and replacement of vac line suffice, or will I need to replace the manifold? in the brake line because of its exposure to the elements? As I've never seen this system before any help would greatly appreciated.

what you think is a vacuum hose is probably an extension to the rear axle breather port. This is mounted in conjunction with the brake line tee. Remove the fitting, clean it out, then replace with any rubber hose.

Yes, that nipple is the bleeder. Someone put a vaccum bleeder onto it to bleed the brakes and was rushing and the vaccum line pulled off of the bleeder and stayed on the truck when they crawled out from underneith. Pitch it in the trash. Good luck.

I have never heard of a vaccuum line on rear brake drums. What I am suspecting is that someone had put on a piece of tubing for the purpose of bleeding the brakes and forgot to remove it when they were finished.
