Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit.

It's practically the "The Times They Are a Changin" for anyone who grew up in the 90's. Unfortunately, thats the reason Kurt killed himself, because thats not what he wanted the song to mean. Regardless, you can't grow up in the 90's without saying you didn't listen to that. Some honorable mentions:

Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Offspring - Keep Em Seperated
Green Day - Dookie
Pearl Jam - Jeremy
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Give It Away
Beck - Loser
Bush - Comedown

I became a teen in 1957, so early rock n roll, doo wop, and the whole entire classic rock era (it wasn't classic then) of the 60's was the music of my generation. Groups like Jefferson Airplane, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Buffalo Springfield, The Hollies, The Byrds, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix Bob Dylan, etc. These are the groups I listened to growing up. And many more I won't add here. For me, the best diversity ever in the history of rock was in the 60's.

I think it would be pop, boybands mostly. Im 17 so i grew up listening to Backstreet Boys, Westlife and that sort of things.
When my tastes in music and all defined, i must have been 10 or 11, this was the music of the moment.

I say, the grunge scene. I was a teen in the 90's, so that was very predominant. As far as impact, well, I think it made me pretty cynical of the commercialized pop music scene of today!
