Normally, you don't have to sue a bank. If the bank did something unethical, or just refuses to give you the balance of an old account (which happened to me), you write a letter to your state banking commission. You will be surprised how fast the bank wants to accommodate you. This also works with insurance companies. But it only works if the bank or insurance company is at fault.

If you have a problem with a large corporation which is not regulated as a utility, call their corporate headquarters and ask to speak with the president. You won't get to speak with the president, but you will get someone that is pretty high up. If your grievance sounds legitimate, they will call down to the people who have wronged you, and read them the riot act.

You just have to know who to talk to.
