Here is a link showing the best thing to use on wood and is used alot for stair steps. It is real easy to use. Just peel off the backing and stick it on where you want.. It has a gritty non-slip surface and comes in different sizes.. You can find this at any well known home improvement store I would imagine... Hope this helps.....

If the treated lumber is left to dry (and it takes a looong time to do that) it can be painted. I painted deck railing, but I waited an entire year for all the chemicals in the treating process to dry and weather. I primed first then coated with a latex paint. I have to admit it lasted a good long time, but if I had to chose a finish today, I'd never paint, I'd stain. Staining lasts and looks better longer.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

well hv someone take a circular saw and set it at a three sixteenth and make run lines in it and that will help plus when you get ready to put safety strips this will help it to bond and you might try pressur washing thatarea to help get the treatment out of the wood

Sand infused paint, premixed, or mix yourself. Make sure the wood is primed correctly, applied correctly, and 2 coated. It should last LONGER THAN 6 MONTHS!
