what happens in this story? my version from school has a page missing. could you sum it up?

well obviously i have the vaguest idea what it's about, but as school literature books are quite large, both sides of a page is a lot of a story to miss.

by the way, yahoo! answers wouldn't have a purpose if there weren't "kind souls" to answer questions. why should anyone answer any question? how is mine any different?

throughout Candide there is a story line of the best possible life........ even the woman that gets her butt cuts off finds the best life for here later on in her life..... the how meaning to me is that "life tis but what we make of it and is not what we get from it and what we have" im not sure i believed it but thats what i got from it in my readings of it in college.

Am I understanding you correctly? The version of Candide that your school issued was written by Jonathan Swift? And you would certainly read it yourself, except there is a page missing. So some kind soul should tell you what this about? Have I got it straight?

I believe Voltaire wrote wrote "Candide", not Jonathan Swift (he of "Gulliver's Travels").

To sum up: We live in the best of all possible worlds.
