Interesting question! I don't know if it would be a *better* world--just different. British colonialism did some bad things in a lot of places, but some good came out of it, too. Some.

I notice you say the English Empire, as I'm English, I thought we were known as the British Empire - but there you go!
Would I be right in thinking you mean in the days before Margaret Thatcher was succumbing to Ronald Reagan's 'charm' and Tony Blair was Bush's lap dog?

First of all,It was all of the powers of Europe that colonized, not just England.Second,a serious question. Was bringing civilization to other parts of the world such a bad thing? Are people really better off living in mud huts and worshiping trees than then they are actually knowing the Earth is round and living in houses?Ruined the world? No!

They weren't the only ones.
But the world would have been much better off if they hadn't interfered in the midle east by giving the Isrealis land that they lost a couple thousand years ago, and then making billionaires of the arabs by teaching them to get oil out of the ground, and then turning the whole mess over to the United States.

Yes ! They not only ruined it BUT F*U*C*K*E*D it up in a big way. The mess around the World is the result of their idiocracies when they plundered the World. Now that the Sun has finally set on their "no longer Empire" things are finally coming home to roost. We are paying for their screw-ups and still the Wold bows down to their Royalty - Hang them all !!!!!!!!

"What a terrible place Earth would be without USA". Can't say I agree with you completely, but you did try hard to adapt some British freedoms after you went your own way, but I have often wondered if the USA has suffered from the ingrained imperfections of those foreign chaps you let in from countries with absolutist monarchies which could be why you have such a number of certifiable nutcases today. Hereditary?

No, because without the European Empires of the 18th and 19th Century (It wasn't just England by the way), the amount of ideas and technologies exchanged, and the movement of people would not have been possible. We'd probably still be stuck in the 19th Century. Progress would be a whole lot slower.

The world would be a far worse place if it were not for the Roman Empire and also the British. Both are finished,of course-what a wonderful world.

No. If English Colonialism never existed, then it may be that the U.S. would never have created the great system of government and citizenship that we have. Their evil rule was the biggest impetus for sticking together and defeating their rule. If not, we may be England II

No. They along with the Italians,Spanish French and Portuguese tried to bring European culture into north, central and south America, and Africa. ..while robbing the natives along the way...so there is plenty of blame to go around. On the other hand, they gave America a unique place in history..without a king and supposedly a "democracy"....which we have yet to live up to.
