Well, if you were old enough, i.e legally an adult, (21 years old I think, in the U.S) you can join dating sites, and put details (but not too much) about yourself, hobbies etc. That way you'll be able to find women with the same interests as you when they search for a guy.
If not, there are a LOT of free chat sites. Just look for girls there, but try not to act like a creep/stalker/weirdo. That would scare the girls, and they'll avoid you, and I don't think you'll want that now, do you? :P
Otherwise, just browse through Yahoo forums and make friendly chats with people.
Also, you can join network sites such as Bingbox, Bebo, Myspace etc, and find profiles and send messages to those you're interested in.
I think sending a message is the only thing that will catch a person's attention these days O_o...
Note: WhatEVER you do though, never give out personal information. It sounds tedious being repeated by everyone, everywhere, but keep yourself as anonymous as you can, but still giving out some information. Things like hobbies, old schools, interests, and the country you live in, are fine. Whereas, detailed information about where you live (even if it's just the state name), your phone number, your real name (full or otherwise), and even your email address- things like that I'd consider as personal info. When I meet people online, regardless of their sex, I never tell them my address, my real full name, nor my email address, unless I'm 100% certain that they are who they claim to be. And I NEVER give out/show photos to anyone.

GIRLFRIENDS or girl friends there is a difference. Sure you can be friends over the Internet. The more friends you have the more people there is to listen when there is a problem to solve!

Well, you can just talk to them but if your really like her then just ask her if you want to meet or something or you could just talk on the internet!

As someone else said, go to personal ads online and post an honest profile. It doesn't mean you are ugly or a loser as some people are suggesting. My husband and I aren't ugly OR socially depraved, and that's how we met.

Try yahoo internet chating, i got lots of girls chating on internet and one of the girl is my closed friend.
All you need is yahoo messenger and then search for group chating

that is the most insecure and unsafe way, if you've met, known, and know that they are safe people to be with then thats find. other than that, it could be a fat, sweaty 40 year old talking to you on the otherside and your on your computer...
