To start off I am a 16 year old goalie and I play for the Richmond Hill Stars. I hurt my knee yesterday after a player collided into it. I saw a doctor today and he said it wasn't too serious but it required minor surgery. He told me either I could keep playing with some pain relief injections in my leg, but risk making it into a serious injury and get serious knee sirgery, or I could get surgery and miss the rest of the year.

Another problem is that there are going to be COLLEGE SCOUTS at the tournament my team is going to in a week, what should I do?

Play for the college scouts then get the surgery. BUT if you are in pain because of it, it will show in your performance. You might not do as well as you would have. And scouts don't know that you are hurt. Let me tell you, I was just at a huge tournment up in Connecticut, and my skates needed to be sharpened really bad. So, we go get them done at a place thirty miles from the rink I was playing at. We get both of them done, and all's good. Until I step on the ice. I had no edge at all!! You should have seen me falling all over the place. (I have a point, just let me finish) There were I believe four different college scouts at that game! I know what they were thinking.

Since you are sixteen you are probably a sophomore, right? There will be more. (Hopefully there will be for me too, maybe at nationals) It is truly up to you. Will you playing hurt help or hurt your team? Are you in major pain? What do your parents think?

But, you shouldn't hurt yourself just to be seen by some silly scouts. I would miss it, let myself heal. I would rather miss the rest of the season instead of my entire career. Just a thought.

Hope I helped!

It's a no brainer! No matter how good you are and how long you play hockey you aren't going to play forever. Don't risk further injury. Get the minor surgery done and don't risk more serious injury. Pain relief injections are definitely not a good option for a 16 year old. That is just asking for serious injury and complications.

Well, if there's scouts and you really believe that you're going to get noticed, then maybe you can put off surgery. Since it's a tournament, the schedule's pretty tight and there's not much time between games to rest your knee. You might want to talk to your coach and maybe play one out of two games. If the tournament's in a week, I think you should rest your knee for now.

Hockey is not going to be your whole life, but the only way to get ahead is to stay in school. So, the answer is obvious. Have the surgery. Don't take the chance of a more serious injury later on.

rest if if your 16 there's gonna be more scouts coming even if you get a good scouting report you might not have the chance to play with them if that knee gets hurt more and scouts dont like injured players

Youre too young to risk damaging your knee further. Get the surgery and call it a year and work hard for next year.

if the scouts are coming to see you they will understand, get thew surgery done now. at a playoff game i had two scouts coming to watch me one for the Petes and the other for the 67's and i scored the winning goal and got checked from behind in to the boards i broke a rib and couldn't play till the middle of the following year. when i came back everything was gone my back was hurting all the time i got surgery done and the pain in my lower back was still there. ill tell you one thing the guy that hit me ended up in the hospital too that same night. get the surgery done, they will come back.

ok, ur only a kid so the best thing is to take minor surgery, the scouts will come back. u don't wan't major surgery, u might be out longer than a minor one. you also don't want to mess up your life and career.
