In the movie E.T. is ET on his stomach or back when he is " dying" in the creek near the racoon?

He is lying on his stomach on the bank of the river during that scene. I think it was a protective posture, just as someone human who is hurt is more likely to lie on their stomachs because it's more comforting.

I haven't seen this movie in years but i believe ET was on his back looking up at Elliot
