I'm not sure if it is legal to flip someone off, but they sure can sue you. To look at some instances where the midde finger and the law have been involved, as well as case studies, look at the link.

Have you never seen all the pictures of celebrities, rock stars, whathaveyou, making that sign at the camera and thinking they're being ohsoclever?

If it was illegal, there'd be no room for actual criminals in prison.

Besides the fact any law against it would be impossible to maintain. How can you prove someone did/didn't, unless they were seen on CCTV? How can you prove they MEANT to do it, and it wasn't just an innocent movement?

It's meaningless and pretty dumb, but it ain't illegal.

I love how answer before me said freedom of speach, like speech, except like peach, as in S-Peach...Super Peach?

It can be illegal, if they are moved to prosecute you for pain and suffering, harassment, character defamation...any number of things they could nail you on. I wouldn't recommend flipping anyone off however, it presents you as immature and unintelligent.

It depends upon whether it is meant in a threatening way, that would be called assault. Battery would be where you picked a booger with it and flipped it at them and hit them.

That's so childish, like calling names.
