no. when you connect your new printer (any brand) your laptop will recognise that you've got something new connected to it and then you'll need to put the cd in that you got with your printer and follow the install process.

i've had a canon and a hp connected to my inspiron 5100

You can use pretty much any name-brand printer that Windows has the drivers for, or the manufacturer supplies the drivers for. The biggest thing to check is the cable. If it is a relatively new machine, and you have USB ports, you can use any relatively new printer with a USB cable.

No. Just make sure you have the printer drivers for the printer you are using. This usually comes on a CD along with the printer. If not, try getting it from download.com for free.

You can use ANY brand printer on ANY brand computer. Its easier if you buy a usb compatible printer though, especially for a laptop.

I would buy an HP printer no matter what the computer make. Get one that is a scanner, copier and printer. They are great. And very reasonably priced.

Yes, that laptop won't work with any other printers. As a matter of fact, if you hook up a Canon or HP printer your laptop will crash and you won't be able to use it ever again.

you do not. You can use any USB printer except those printers that are specifically designed for use with a MAC.....

There are many to choose from. HP, Lexmark, Canon, Sony .......the list goes on.

No. You can use any printer for which you can get printer drivers for your operating system. I use a Ricoh and an Epson with my Dell systems.
