I wrote a paper for my english class and because I forgot to give credit to someone I quoted my prof. gave it to the Dean. She did'nt even ask me for an explanation. Is this wrong or am I way off?

Plagiarism has been a hot topic for quite some time now and many universities have zero tolerance for it - so you may be in hot water. However, you should be given a chance to explain what happened. Simply ask your professor what's going on. DO NOT TAKE THIS ACTION LIGHTLY!!!

It depends on your school's policies about cheating and plagiarism. If it has a "zero tolerance" policy, then no this doesn't seem way off (unless you can prove that they are holding you to a different standard than others, where similar things have happened with a very different result...??)

If you legitimately forgot, and you have an unblemished record and a good reputation in this regard, I'd hope you have a chance to be heard and that a positive outcome for you is possible.

If you really did plagiarize, well, you should get what's coming to you.
