There was a previous answer that was correct. It may be that the owner of the network is turning off their modem when they are not using the internet. You are getting a strong connection signal because you are still connecting to the router, but there is no internet connection available.

You are connecting to a neighbor's internet likely. WiFi isn;t free, you need to connect it to the internet somewhere, unless in Starbucks or other location that is a "hotspot". WIFi means that YOU have access in your PC, AND YOU have an access point that connects to the internet.
If you have wide area WIreless (cellular), then your problem is signal, similar to a cel phone signal availability...move the location of the PC

NOPE, it is the two you employ the WEP handle out of your cable provider or purchase a Nintendo wireless USB port for like $40. it does not additionally fee you something, all you desire is the help to pass broadband and instant and stuff. in case you do no longer understand what an WEP is ,purely call your cable provider (Verizon, Comcast, Direct television, etc) and that they are going to telll you what it incredibly is and what you will would desire to do to get wireless on your Wii. it is rather ordinary incredibly, purely visit settings and visit wireless connection and nicely you'l understand the rest, purely get your password and thar you go! oh and you will desire a instant Router first.

the provider of that connection may have encrypted the signal. you would need the key to get into the internet. or .his router firewall may be blocking the access, even though you thinkit's unsecured., he may have enabled MAC filtering on his router, hence you're being blocked.
You do know that if the signal is not advertised as open and free, and you are trying to piggy back on that signal that it's illegal right?

They don't have internet on their connection, or it may be temporarily down. If you can access folders on the my network places window that are from another computer, your connection is fine, its just the internet is not on.
