Get a good lawyer. It depends on what state you are in. If you are in a no fault state then everything will be split 50/50. You deserve your half. No he should not have been kidding about killing you. They will probalby give you one dog and him the other. sounds like he is holding the dogs over your head as a bargaining chip to get you to stay. Get a lawyer and find out your rights. You could probably find out a lot on the internet. The first visit with a lawyer is usually free. You might need a restraining order if he keeps talking like that. good Luck. Be careful!

You are going to fight for custody of the dog? And, please don't tell me you are serious about giving up 1/2 of your property because of your dog. I mean, I love my Lizzie, but that would not be the determining factor of whether I would give up my assets. Wake up woman. Is this your dog? Just take the dog with you when you leave. Good Lord, I can't believe I even just answered this. Have you ever heard of priorities?
If you need a good slap into reality let me know.
Oh and you are right, he shouldn't have told you that he will kill you.. if you feel threatened by that, take your dog, leave and get a good lawyer.

Just take the dogs & go. If he squawks then let him have the dog you like the least, & see if he accepts that. Judges don't get concerned about the welfare of an animal in a custody case. Animals are treated as community property, not as children.

You are living with a man who threatened to kill you? Think about it. While you may love your dogs, your life is much more important. Seek help from local services, police, social services, women's shelter and run, run, run. Do not take the threat too lightly. I'm worried about your safety. You should be too. It's no joke.

Dogs are considered personnel property.it should be up to the courts. As for him joking about killing you.He may say it's just a joke but,it sounds like some thing that he thinks about so it's no laughing matter.

Take the dogs and leave, and get a restraining or protection order against him NOW. Use a police escort when you move out, if needed. He's threatened your life, and that's nothing to take lightly. Don't tell him where you live.
