oil, natural gas, cotton, coal, anything extracted from the earth that can be used to make a finished product is classified as a raw material.

A few examples:

Leaves and grass are raw material and are used to make compost.

Ore is a raw material and used to make Aluminum.

Sand is used to make Glass.

Wood is used to make Paper.
