Actually, there was a study that proved that you will NOT see a dead acquaintance in yuor dreams until you have started the acceptance portion of the grieving process. It is a good sign. Crying can mean relief, sadness, loneliness, or joy. Only you can answer that.

It means you love and miss them so you dream about them and you still feel the sadness when you wake up. Think about the happy times with your loved one and know that your loved one is not suffering anymore, they are in a peaceful sleep. We know everyone has to die and it was your loved one's time. Just believe your loved one is trying to tell you to live your life the best you can and do the right things and that they are at rest waiting for God's return.

Something is un resolved,The spirit probably don't mean to frighten you but to them,they need someone to relay message.Pray for that person to not frighten you and talk to that person i realy doubt the spirit means you harm.If that is not the case mabe you might need some grief counselling.But if things don't improve contact a openminded priest.I feel for you ,don't give up.

It means they are stuck between worlds. They did not move on. They are Ghosts. (disembodied souls) If one commits suicide, or dies abruptly, or is murdered or their body is not cremated the almost always remain a ghost for a very long time. If one wants to help their souls. go to krishnaculture. Read Bhagavad Gita as it Is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. Chanting the Maha Mantra can help deliver the lost souls and also help the one chanting it.( the great mantra for deliverance from suffering and illusion.) I keep a CD playing of it at night so not to be attacked by ghosts and to help my soul as well.

It means that their spirit is visiting you while you are sleeping and you are quite emotional about it. If it upsets you then ask them not to do it.

Usually its a demon because the dead have no knowledge of this world. Rebuke it in the name of Jesus and pray for answers.
