This only happens when I fuel up. The car is not running when i fuel up. I start the car and it seems like the RPM's go up then die down. If i hold my foot on the gas it will stable long enough for me to put it in drive. Then i go a few minutes and the car is fine. I have already replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. I won a 99 oldsmobile cutlass gls. it uses more gas then normal also. I have had a fuel system cleaning on the car also ( i work at jiffy lube) what else could the problem be?

MAF sensor, TPS, might even be a computer issue.
You need to have a REAL mechanic look at it (My apologies to the oil change techs, but you're not mechanics).

This might sound like a real simplistic answer, but here goes. Today's cars and their fuel pumps pressurize the fuel tank. Your fuel filler cap must have a tight seal on it for the fuel system to work properly. Check the fuel filler cap for a cracked or missing seal (gasket). The fuel filler neck could also be damaged, dented too. One way to be sure it is getting pressurized is to check when you first open the fuel filler cap. Listen for the fuel tank to be letting off pressure. If you don't hear it "breathe out" when you open the cap, the system is not pressurizing.

2 things caused by one problem. When the country switched from leaded gasoline to unleaded gasoline, we found that after about 10 years, the fumes from the unleaded gas tends to dry-rot rubber. Your vaccum lines are dry-rotted and your fuel line is probably dry-rotted too. First, check all of your rubber fuel lines for dry-rot. Also check your vaccum lines. I'm sure there are a few that need replaced. Good luck.

Change plugs, do a tune up, check for broken or lose fitting vacuum hoses and then spray brake cleaner on the motor gaskets around the intake while the engine is running. If the engine speed changes (up or down) you got a leak there. Should not be.

sounds like you need to get it put on a diagnostic computer. You can get this done at any major auto repair shop. The test will check out all your sensors and tell you what is causing the problem.. This test isn't expensive but the repairs could be.

make sure the fuel filter was changed, if its not that try having the injectors cleaned

try the oxygen sensor... that will solve your gas consumption also
