more of a challenge. can it be done, try it. force a gpu as a ppu. and have a separate gpu for the graphics end. or turn the on board graphics chip act as a ppu. if it can be done $$$ for you.

Just wait until a while after DX10 is launched. There will be an API for GPGPU (general purpose computing on GPU), which will allow you to calculate physics on a GPU, among other things.
Also, the X1950XTX has a folding@home client, so I imagine some magical unicorn hacker could do something with that.

Graphics processors are too dedicated to do a halfway decent job of being an integer CPU, they certainly aren't suitable for performing physical calculations. If you had a spare DSP hanging around that might do the job, but even then you are going to need to do man years of work to implement and then integrate it into a system.

Force a gpu as a ppu? You can't 'force' a processor to do anything. What were you thinking of? Kidnap its kids? Twists its arm behind its back?
