Try early 80's American pop songs, especially love songs.

Even many current Japanese animation songs seems to be stuck in a time warp. That's what happen if you go chou jikuu.

Here are the following examples:

"Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" by Glenn Medeiros

"Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel

try something by puffy ami yumi (jokingly) or for dramatic stuff a lot of people use nightwish. Alltough if you are making one of those stupid "let me make a music video with my favorite anime scenes" things, get a life and find a way to actually be creative for a change.
