I would take all the gift giving away and stop the materialism. I would make it what it should be, a day to remember that God's son was born for you.

I would definitely limit the time for commercialization to a max of 2 weeks. It's BS that it starts now before even Halloween!
I would require that all families that celebrate Christmas, attend some sort of service so that they actually know what they are celebrating!
I'm not a scrooge but I think that stores should be able to make money without bombarding us senseless with ads that drive people insane and make them spend all kinds of money that they don't have.
Nor am I a religious fanatic but I definitely spend time reflecting at Christmas on what the true meaning is.
(And I don't want to hear all the BS about Christ wasn't born on 12/25. It's a symbolic holiday just like most of the rest, the meaning is what counts not the semantics and technicalities about whether the date is right!)

If I could change one thing about this season, I would require all executive Christmas/year end bonuses to be donated to social services programs to be distributed amongst the homeless and the poor.

This would eliminate the waste, overspending, gluttony and greed of the already overpaid executives in business and politics, but still allow them the opportunity to deduct their donations.

Many times, these bonuses are usually sqaundered by many 6 figure employees and officers. Since they don't need this money or bonus to "live on" or to catch up and by a gift for their child, they often let it waste away, give it to someone else who doesn't need it or just toss it aside.

If they only knew that the "fat" at the end of the year went to supply the homeless with gloves, scarves or boots...they would feel a bit better about themselves and give it up without a fight.

Start Christmas advertising about the end of November, that is enough time for consumers to go out there and buy whatever they need including presents. It starts too early and by the time Christmas comes everyone are bored of it and despise it.

I would want everyone to really know and understand the meaning of Christmas, instead of all the commercialism that it has become.
