American is a very christianized society. Basically, we view every other religion as wrong or satanic. Being a Christian myself, I don't believe the Quran should be used for anything that carries the importance of being sworn into an office. Also, with the supposed "separation of church and state" we shouldn't swear on anything except our own honor and morality.

We separarted church from state because of witch hunts , womans rights ,slavery and freedom of religion or no religion.
He is an ignorant racist who's ignorance became apparent when he said that we should close the border so Muslims wont get elected into congress.
Ellis is an African American who's family was here since the 1700's.He is as american as american can get.
What Virgil Goode probably doesn't realize is that it is probably his conservative ancestors that brought Ellis's ancestors here and enslaved them.I guess they thought they were patriots too.

Dertiot has a huge muslim popluation. So large in fact that they have large bell or an alarm or something in one distict that goes off 4 times a day and all the idiot get on their knees, face Mecha, and worship allah (the devil).
The loony liberals who are always championing, "Sep. of church and state" had nothing to say about it.
This country was founded on Christianity. The form of government, our laws, the contitutional republic is totally based on the principles of the Holy Bible. To have some idiot sworn it with a koran is absurd. "What about freedom of religion", all the idiots who not nothing about history will say. What was meant by that is Christian religions (Lutherians, Meathodist, Catholic, Baptist, ect.). It was never intended to allow a bunch of throat cutting, dirty bearded, uneducated, devil worshipping, throw backs from the 7th century come live here and preach their kill the Jews and dead to the West. Religion of peace my rear-end. A pox upon your religion. You dirty little throw backs are worshipping the devil.
Another thing. The seperation of church and state is no where in the constitution. You have proboly been told that it is by your glue sniffing, bugger eating, dope smoking, liberal teacher, but it is not there. The phrase seperation of church and state was not even written in the same century as the constitution. It was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802, in letter to the Danbury Baptist Church Association, in Connecticut. "The first amendment has erected a wall of seperation of church and state", TJ, 1802. What was meant was a one dimentional wall designed to keep the government from running the church (they didn't want a monarchy), but to ensure that Christian principles would always influence the government, otherwise the government would surely become corrupt. As we see evident to be true.
They knew what they were doing. Today's politicans are ALL imbicels.
Ben Franklin said, "We have given you a constitutional republic, if you can keep it."
Next time Bush or any other politician gets up and calls us a democracy, they ought to be shoot.
Democracies are horrible forms of govenment that always lead to dictatorship.
Democracy is based on the idea that man is god. It is an atheist, humanist, form of government and a recipe for desaster.
1)Man is god
2)How do we know right from wrong? Man gets together and they decide.
3)Where do your rights come from? Man gets together and decideds what rights they will allow you.
A constitutional republic, however, is based on the idea that the law is supreme.
Right are inalienable and come from God.
The only purpose of a constituitonal republic form of gov. is to protect your property, and to protect us from evil doers.

It means that Goode is a bigot, ignorant and scared of what he has imagined. There is nothing wrong with taking the oath of office on the Quran. It used to be that elected officials took the oath on their favorite items, and many would take it on their dogs. Once a few started bringing the bible, it just became the political thing to do, and then became tradition. When are people going to remember one of the things this country was built on was freedom of religion?

America is a Christian nation despite what anyone says. Furthermore, no country in the mid-East would permit the swearing in much less the election of any who is not muslim. So before any group of people decides to cast stones, they should first examine themselves and the perverted belief systems they have.

Representatives aren't officially sworn into office with their hand on any book... not the Bible... not the Quran... not Charlotte's Web. Theyr'e just sworn in by the Speaker. Many choose to have a second swearing in with their books, but those are just photo ops set up by themselves for PR purposes.

Not a damn thing is wrong with it. I am tired of the government assuming that all Americans are Christian. Virgil Goode is a perfect example of what is drastically wrong with this country. What ever happened to the separation of church and state anyway? A politician's religion should not matter, his character, qualifications and ability to lead should!
EDIT: Aj...In our country's early days, slavery was accepted and women didn't have the right to vote, the old ways aren't necessarily right.

If a Christian is elected in a Muslim country, should he/she be sworn into office using a Koran? And, if he/she was, would it mean anything?

It's about death to the infidels and that's us!
But it's a good shot in the arm for American and the Fundamentalist Christians to see SOME other religion being used.
Maybe we'll finally separate Church from state and just use the Consitution for swearing in. That IS what we are supposed to be about. The Constution.

Whats wrong is that the Bible is used because the country was founded on Judeo Christian philososophy and that standard has been upheld for the courts. Options are non religious oahs that can be requested. You could run the gammet with this to the point of idiocy.
