My father past away yesterday afternoon and needless to say I have been very sad. But my cat and dog are now acting weird. The dog is hyper and unsettled and the cat who kind of keeps to himself now follows me around EVERYWHERE and sleeping on me and just will not leave my side. Are they just sensing the sadness ?

Animals have wonderful instincts. If we could only use ours as they use theirs huh? They know what happened and want to make you feel better. They are probably sad and will go through a grieving process just like humans. Animals also seem to have a sick sense...your father may be hanging around in spirit and your animals can sense this. No I'm not a weirdo, it is true...

your pets are defenitely sensing the sadness. I am sorry to hear about your father. pets react to every single routine change. I went home for vacation in Venezuela and spent 20 days with my family/pets. My 11 year old dog died a day after I left.

Yeah. Animals can tell when you're sad/happy/lonely/whatever.
They're just like us. I don't know if it's some sorta sense they have, or if they can just tell like humans, but they can tell how you feel. My dog was always nice to me when I was little and sad. And I think they're trying to comfort you. If the dog is causing trouble or something like that he/she's prob just trying to get your mind off things or something.

100%! I'm very sorry for your loss by the way. As you feel better, so will they.

I'm pregnant and my animals knew before I did. If I'm sick, my cat is my nurse, he beats the faces off the dogs for making noise or coming near me.

They are just making sure you're ok.

They can definitely sense the sadness!!! When my grandma passed my dog who is normally very hyper and won't sit for one minute sat with me while I cried and wouldn't leave my side. ~Sorry for your loss~
