If done right. We brought down Nixon in 74 and had already forced an end to the war in Viet Nam. But we PROTESTED, we did not sit here and call names. We marched we blocked streets, we closed schools.

Rosa Parks protested unfair laws for people riding buses. She got that changed.

Nelson Mandela protested and was jailed for protesting Apartied. That is no longer practiced.

Gahndi ran the British out of India by protesting.

Yes, it accomplishes lots, if done right.

Sure, if it wasn't for protesting, there wouldn't be civil rights, equal rights, worker's rights (you wouldn't have any child labor laws), women's rights and our soldiers may still be in Vietnam (oh, that's right they aren't, they are just in Iraq--like Vietnam). Some are too young to realize that this country was built on freedom of speech, not Nazi lockstep because the President claims that he has a direct line to god.

It can change the world. It empowers others to express their opinions as well. It reminds those in power that they have not indeed fooled all of the people. And it really really annoys the heck out of those who like to sit on their butts griping about protestors while doing nothing themselves.
