I live in the NY metro area and have never had a problem getting into promotional parties. These can be sort of fun and at least the booze is free.

1. Scour blogs and online press releases to get dates and places. Create a calendar of interesting events to go to.

2. Dress and primp like you are already a star. You may need to spend a little in this department, but you do not have to go all designer. Quality knockoffs should be fine. More importantly is how skillfully you accessorize the outfit. Dress to be photographed, not just seen in person. You're going to want to be a little more outrageous with hair and makeup.

3. Have confidence at the door and they will often let you walk right in, guestlist or not (only works if you are a woman).

4. Any event that you can get in, make sure to network like crazy. Swap business cards and cell numbers. Especially good to make nice with are society photogs, D.J.'s and PR reps. Any contacts that you meet in one party can help you get into another.

5. When all else fails, rent a limo.

There is a world of difference between the original Republican concept and intent and what the Republican Party is now. The original Republican Party structure believed in fair trade, producing good products and paying fair wages. They were against monopolies and unfair price manipulations. Teddy Roosevelt (the great Republican president) went after and dismantled the monopolies that were crippling the country, that were rewarding a few while keeping everyone else at or near the poverty level. The Republican Party during Roosevelt's time encouraged the regulations that kept businessmen honest. The Republican Party of today wants no restrictions, no regulations, that can deter them from continuing to screw the middle class and the lower class. Remember what happened when Reagan started the whole Republican de-regulation mess that ushered in the first wave of ruthless, greedy bastards stealing for the elderly, the middle class and the poor? Remember the second wave ushered in by Bush and the give away of our surplus to the already rich? The Republican Party has managed to do this by fooling a great many Americans into thinking they represent freedom (which to the GOP means unregulated greed), religious values (even though there is nothing Christian about their stealing from fellow Americans), less government (which translates to the GOP removing the last consumer safeguards), family values (which is a major joke considering how much stress Republican greed puts on the average American family financially) and anti-civil rights (which is a major joke considering how often they exploit these same people). They wrap themselves up in the American flag and patriotism and a lot of clueless voters believe the lies and ignore what the Republican Party has done to hurt middle America over the past forty years. Eisenhower was our last true Republican president and a pretty decent man. What this country really needs is a few real old-school honest Republicans that believe in equal opportunity and fair business practices. What this country needs is another Teddy Roosevelt, an honest man with balls.
