I disagree with TD, as long as you pay your bill in a timely fashion eact month, credit cards can be a good thing. They have some good benefits (i.e., I get 1% back on all I spend). Also if you pay for a good or service that isn;t what you thought, try reversing a debut card transaction, it is very difficult. With a credit card compnay, you smply call them and they may have you write a letter.

In sum, pay on time and it can be a good thing.

P.S. I also like using credit cards because it prevents many service men and shops from cheating on their taxes. i.e. when you pay a roofer in cash, I bet they are hiding much of their income from the IRS. When paying by credit card, there is a record and therefore harder to hide.

Dont get a credit card with or without a job. If you cannot afford it dont put it on plastic. Wait and save the money then purchase. Use your debit card for hotels, airlines, etc. Stay away

I got my first card 20 yrs ago in college and all I was doing was working intramural sports officiating. Job didn't pay much, but I paid off what little I put on the card on a regular basis.
