after it was placed into water it became 5.2g more, but now it became -1.4g after 10%sugar -3.1g and after 15% sugar -4.6g.
Please help in this.. this biology stuff is complicated!

this is osmosis the water on the outside od the potato is less concentrated than that of the inside. so water leave the potato an d enter the 5% sugar solution.

this is due to osmosis which is the transfer of water from high concentration to low concentration through a semipermeable membrane
in this case the outer solution which contains the sugar has more concentration of sugar than inside the cells of potato so the outer solution pull the water from potato cells to outside so the mass of potato decreased
the semipermeable membrane in that case is the plasms membrane of potato cells
when you put the potato in pure water the solution inside potato cells has more concentration of solutes than the outer solution so the potato cells pull the water from outside water so the mass of potato became more .
